Who We Are
Our Mission

We're not here to scare anyone. We're here to correct a misunderstanding that's putting students at risk: that ADHD medication works like a general focus booster. It doesn't.
That gap in understanding is what drives most of the misuse we're trying to prevent — so we built Focus, For Real to close it. No judgement. No scare tactics. Just the facts, and the confidence to talk about them honestly.
One myth. Three audiences. A lot at stake
Prescription stimulants like Ritalin and dexamphetamine are increasingly being used without a prescription in the hope of studying longer, focusing harder and performing better. But the evidence tells a different story. The academic advantage students are chasing may not actually exist.
The “study drug” shortcut isn’t what it seems.
ADHD medication doesn't work like a general focus booster. It corrects a specific difference in brain chemistry that only exists in people with ADHD. In someone without it, there's no extra focus to unlock — just the risks, with none of the benefit people are chasing. A longitudinal study found no significant GPA improvement among students using prescription stimulants without a diagnosis, despite many of them feeling more focused
For Students,
Chasing better grades shouldn’t come with hidden risks.
Academic pressure is real. But using ADHD medication without a prescription isn’t the study shortcut it’s often made out to be. Get the facts on “study drugs”, understand the risks, and discover healthier ways to perform at your best.

For Educators and Staff,
Better support. Less pressure. Safer students.
What can look like a shortcut to academic success may signal stress, pressure or misconceptions about prescription stimulants. Learn the facts, recognise the risks, and help create a learning environment where students don’t feel they need medication to keep up.

"I knew it wasn't 'nothing,' but I didn't realise how real the risks actually were. This made it feel less like a warning and more like something worth actually knowing"
